Loosen the Grip: Tips to Release Control and Manage Anxiety

First, let's challenge those irrational thoughts. Are they based on facts or pure fear and assumptions? Write them down and put them under the microscope. Realizing how irrational those thoughts are is like lifting the weight of the world off your shoulders. It's like the feeling that you had as a kid when you finally realized that the monster under your bed was just your imagination. Not sure whether it’s fear or not? Next, let's soothe our nerves a little, shall we? We can take a moment to practice some mindfulness techniques. It's time to focus on the now. Take a deep breath and let yourself be present. Engage in some deep breathing or meditation and let your worries drift away. Here’s one helpful exercise…

 

Now let’s talk about those negative thoughts. Self-criticism will lead you into a deeper hole. It's time to show yourself some love instead of berating yourself for feeling anxious. Remember that it's OK not to have everything under control, and breathe.

Lastly, don't forget to seek support. Whether it be your BFF, a family member, or a good therapist, there's someone out there to cheer you on and offer words of encouragement.

Take a moment to think. Where do you struggle most with control and anxiety? Maybe make a list.
